A new national moment for trams

Time for Trams is a bold new annual gathering for the people shaping the future of urban transport in the UK.

Following the publication of the Department for Transport’s Better Connected Integrated Transport Strategy, Landor LINKS and the Tram Network are pleased to announce Time for Trams 2026.

Time for Trams will highlight the importance of integrated mass transit and a route map to cheaper and quicker delivery that adopts best practice from UK and international exemplars.

This is not just another conference.

It is a rallying point for political leaders, policy makers, investors and delivery experts who recognise that Britain needs to move faster – and think bigger – when it comes to mass transit.

At its heart, Time for Trams is about one question:
How do we deliver new tram networks faster, more affordably, and at scale?

The UK doesn't lack ambition. It lacks delivery at pace.

Time for Trams is about changing that.

Why now?

The UK stands at a critical crossroads.

Cities are under pressure to:

  • Deliver housing and unlock growth

  • Decarbonise transport at pace

  • Improve connectivity and productivity

  • Create places people actually want to live in

And yet, delivery of mass transit has been too slow, too expensive, and too fragmented.

Trams and light rail offer a proven solution:

  • High-capacity, zero-emission urban transport

  • Catalyst for regeneration and investment

  • Reliable, legible networks that shape cities

But the question is no longer if we build them.

It's how we deliver them better.

Why attend?

Strictly limited to 200 senior-level attendees, this will be the UK's most focused and influential tram event.

Attend to:

  • Hear directly from political leaders driving delivery

  • Understand how to cut costs and accelerate timelines

  • Learn from UK and European best practice

  • Explore new delivery models, funding approaches and technologies

  • Build relationships with the people who will shape the next decade of transport investment

This is where decisions, partnerships and momentum begin.

Who it's for:

Time for Trams is designed for those with the power to shape and deliver change:

  • Elected mayors, council leaders and senior politicians

  • National, regional and local government officials

  • Transport authorities and planners

  • Engineers, operators and delivery specialists

  • Urban designers and regeneration leaders

  • Developers, investors and funding bodies

  • Policy experts and advisors

If you are responsible for delivering better transport in towns and cities, this event is for you.

Time for Trams – why trams?

Trams are not a nostalgia project. They are a modern, scalable solution to urban mobility.

They:

  • Move more people, more efficiently

  • Provide certainty for long-term investment

  • Integrate seamlessly with wider transport networks

  • Support dense, walkable, economically vibrant places

And with new approaches to design and construction, they can now be:

  • Faster to deliver

  • More affordable to build

  • More adaptable to different urban contexts

The UK has the opportunity to deliver a new generation of tram systems, but only if we act differently.

Why Coventry?

Time for Trams launches in Coventry, a city at the forefront of innovation.

Hosted at the Coventry Technology Centre, the home of the Coventry Very Light Rail (CVLR) programme, delegates will experience first-hand a radically new approach to tram delivery.  The event will include an in-depth study tour of the next phase of the CVLR test track, including exclusive access to on-site delivery and engineering teams.

The CVLR project is demonstrating:

  • Ultra-light vehicles

  • Rapid, low-disruption track construction

  • Significantly reduced capital costs

Coventry is showing what's possible when innovation meets ambition.
