School Streets are transforming the school run – improving air quality, cutting congestion, and making walking and cycling to school safer and more enjoyable for thousands of children and families.
Now returning for its fourth annual edition, and once again hosted by Lambeth Council,
School Streets South 2026 is the UK's only conference in the South of England dedicated entirely to School Streets policy, delivery, and innovation.
Each year the event brings together more than 200 local authority officers, campaigners, teachers, engineers, and active travel professionals to share lessons, showcase progress, and shape the future of safer, healthier journeys to school.

The 2026 conference will highlight the latest developments from Active Travel England and the Department for Transport, alongside new research, case studies, and practical advice for authorities implementing and expanding School Street programmes.

Recent monitoring by
Active Travel England shows that School Streets typically cut car use for school journeys by up to half, with measurable improvements in air quality and child activity levels.
National surveys from Sustrans and YouGov show that more than four out of five people support School Streets, and most children say they'd prefer to walk, wheel or cycle to school if they could.

Local authority free registration
A limited number of funded conference tickets are available for public sector attendees only.

Each local authority may claim a maximum of two funded tickets and a valid local authority email address must be used to secure a funded place.
​
If your authority does not appear in the dropdown, the funded allocation has been filled. If you still wish to attend, you will need to purchase a local authority ticket priced at £145 + VAT via TransportXtra.

Funded tickets may be withdrawn without notice once the allocation is reached, after which only paid bookings will remain.
